STATEMENT BY UCTABA IN SUPPORT OF “BUY BLACK WEEK”
The University of Cape Town Association of Black Alumni (UCTABA) fully supports the BUY BLACK Campaign. We think it is about time that the black community actively and purposefully starts to support its own businesses and entrepreneurs. We need to have credible and sustainable black businesses and enterprises that can hold their own in the economic landscape.
We thus call on all our members and those who support our objectives, to spend at least R100 per day or R700 between 7-14 December 2020 with black owned and managed businesses and enterprises or any black owned service or product.
It is time that as black people we start taking charge of our destiny to create sustainable black enterprises that can stand on their own and be less dependent on short-lived, unsustainable BEE deals that benefit the banks and the white companies that spawn these.
